Trip to Utah -2

The last few days of our trip in Utah were spent in Heber with my family.  Maggie remembers fishing from last year (dang she has a good memory).   Grandma Margaret, Carolyn, and I took the kids to the State Park in Midway were they have a pond.  We love to go feed the ducks and boy were they hungry that day.
At first Maggie was very nervous about them just coming up to her but she got use to it and had a blast.
Then came the fishing.  They let the kids fish for free in the pond.  They have poles and you buy the bate. It's fun just to let the kids try to cast (or have us cast for them).  Withing 10 minutes Hunter had reeled in a good size fish.  We were so not expecting this nor were we prepared as they never catch anything when we have gone before, or anything big enough to keep.
Here I am getting the hook out of the throat of the rainbow trout Hunter pulled out.  It was so deep in there, we weren't going to be able to throw it back in.  Maggie was so excited as this was the first time she had seen us catch a fish while fishing and she wanted to watch and know everything.  We used our lunch bag to put the fish and water in it and went back to letting the kids fish.
Maggie liked reeling in the line.

Then all of the sudden, Anna got one.
Ok, this is getting a little surprising. One fish could be a fluke but 2 fish in 5 minutes. Oh dear I thought, why did I wear white pants today?   The older girls, Brittany and Katie, were now interested in trying.  It wasn't to long before we heard Brittany said "I got one!"  Brittany was so sweet and let Maggie help her reel in the fish.

You got one Mag's!!!

Look at how brave she is holding her fish!

What you don't see is the second after this was taken when the fish moved and she let go and screamed.  She wasn't expecting it to move.  Katie was next to catch a pan sized trout, but we didn't stop there.  By the time we left we had 5 fish to fry and  threw back one for a total of 6.  What mighty fisher kids we have.
It was like we had a fish whisper or something.

Towards the end Maggie did something that surprised me big time.  She fell in love with the worms.  Yes you heard me, she loved the worms.  They were huge worms!  She didn't want anything to do with them when we first got there saying she didn't want to touch or hold them as she didn't have her gloves (work gloves from the garden).  After a while and seeing her cousins not being afraid of them she found that they weren't so scary and called them so cute.
Oh there is hope for my girl girl who doesn't like to get dirty.  She was so upset when we were going to leave the worms there for the next person, that we had to take home "wormy" the worm home to Grandma's house.

Too bad Grandpa, Mike, or Jeff weren't there to share in this awesome day of fishing. They were surprised as we were that we had fish for dinner.  Little did we all know that they had just stocked the pond that week with fish.  I still think is was because we were such good fishermen, because we were in the right place at the right time.  That's what it takes to be a good fisherman in my mind anyway.
